Rocco's Blog 11/5/08

A woman entered a restaurant and shouted at the top of her lungs, “DO NOT PRETEND!” the bartender escorted her out and continued to serve. I laughed because I thought she had a point. Morning came and I began my walk home only to find her words written on the wall. I snapped a photo, walked home, and listened to the amazing Samuel Barber till I fell asleep.

I think she may have a point. How many of us *pretend* to feel things, *pretend* to really grab life by the cojones and suck the juice out of it....? But in reality, we plod along without realising that every day is a gift and an opportunity to really *feel* something and to actually interact with our surroundings. The general ennui with which people life their daily surburban lives was best summed up in the movie "American Beauty"; watching the Kevin Spacey character rebel against the hamster wheel brought a wry smile to my face.

Hey Little Bird!
Keenan just showed me your new video, You, sir, do not pretend. Your soul lies on the outside of your skin when you sing. That is where your truth lives.

Great post, Rocco! I love your writing. I'm a prose/observation blogger too and just introduced "Colorful" as the theme song for my blog http://www.mostbeautifulthing.com, then added a link to your blog. I really dig your work. Great to find you. I'll keep reading... and listening.

Warmly,
Heather
